ABOUT Cockatoo FDC

Welcome to Cockatoo Family Day Care centre. We are an accredited family day care centre specialising in the education and care of children aged 6 weeks to 6 years. Run from a relaxed, custom-built education environment in our West Pymble location, our day care centre creates an enjoyable and interactive experience for your child to grow, develop and express themselves.

Cockatoo FDC is a unique, boutique child care facility. There are two independent Family Day Care educators on the one property, who come together for planned play group experiences, which enables children to socialise with a greater number of children without having to leave the premises.

Cockatoo Family Day Care is a family-run facility. Child care groups are intimate, with a maximum of 8 children per day and four children in each room with their own qualified Educator. The owner and head operator is a fully trained, Diploma qualified early child care teacher with over 15-years experience working with young children.

Our fully accredited facility is part of the Holistic Approach Family Day Care Scheme, making child care tax rebates and other Centrelink benefits (CCB &CCR) fully accessible to parents.

Morning and afternoon tea, nappies, wipes, creams, sun cream, bedding, all play equipment and supplies, excursions and all fees to the Holistic Approach Family Day Care scheme are included in the daily fees, ensuring that you don’t experience any extra costs start up or ongoing costs.

Our Staff

Netta Gove: Owner/Director/Room Leader

My name is Netta Gove (neé Sawicki) and I was born and raised on the North Shore of Sydney where I attended East Lindfield Primary School and Killara  High School.  While earning my Bachelor of Interior Design at UTS, I gained a variety of work experience as a cook, caterer, sales assistant, designer, nanny and teacher. Those later experiences proved to be formative and during my post-Uni gap year, I came to realise that while I enjoyed my work as a designer, my true passion was, and continues to be, working with children.

Upon my return, I became a nanny and, in 2005, I completed a Diploma in Children’s Services. Since that time, I have been the teacher/room leader of the (0-3) babies room at two different centres and have also worked for an agency that allowed me the opportunity to work with children of all ages in various childcare centres across Sydney. Although I have enjoyed working in childcare centres and have gained valuable experience while doing so, it has been a long-time dream to open a home-based centre that allows me to provide more individualised attention to the children in my care.

I have been running Cockatoo Family Day Care since May 2013, and have loved every moment. It truly is my dream job. I feel so fortunate to be able to watch the children grow and develop.

I am very excited for the next chapter of Cockatoo FDC, having Karen as an educator and another group of children on the premises will open up a myriad of possibilities, activities and experiences.

Karen Lewin: Room Leader

Hi my name is Karen and I have always had a passion for working with children, starting as a local babysitter at age 13. During high school, I perused an interest in tourism, achieving my diploma. After a short time working in the industry, I made the change to childcare and have never looked back.

I started in the childcare industry as a trainee in 2009 and since then I have worked at a few different long day care centres, working with all the age groups. I have expanded this interest of working with children by doing volunteer work with children and young adults.

I love the childcare industry because I get to help children reach their full potiential. Seeing a child smile is contagious and makes everything I do so worthwhile. My favourite thing to do with the children is dancing. They love to imitate the fun ways I like to dance.

I really enjoy the fact that I get the opportunity to teach children new and exciting things and in return I learn so much from the children too.
